Your world is your perspective
Words by Charles Kha
An important thing, in fact a thing of paramount importance, is the risks we take behind the wheel. If you are truly honest with yourself, how often do you really think to yourself that this may be the last time you ever get to start your car?
My title for this entry is a quote that most people will understand, but perhaps only at face value. You see, people get the general concept that your world (as in the things you’ve learnt and experienced) is what gives you your perspective, your outlook if you will, on life. But they tend to miss the sheer gravity of it. People understand that it is through experience that you gain knowledge. But what they fail to realise is its flipside: that without experience, there is no knowledge.
Everything in life revolves around this basic principle. Take a child for example, born freshly into a world it knows nothing about. Its first few years are spent learning – experiencing things – which then becomes its knowledge. A child doesn’t know that something hot is bad until it experiences the pain first hand.
For car enthusiasts, the same principle applies to everything that we do. Swapping an engine sounds like a daunting task, but once you have done it, your experience will make future swaps easier, and easier, and easier. And with driving, experience is key. Without a good level of experience – no matter what anyone says about natural talent or a God-given knack for steering – you won’t have the knowledge to be a good driver.
